lot (trails b-side)

about

this song is a cut from the "trails" sessions that didn't ultimately make it to the final album.
i'm really proud of the raw feel we achieved here, but the track didn't quite fall into the same lyrical spectrum of the rest of the record...and that's what led to its exclusion.
lyrically, we explore a more emotionally vulnerable side of lot - the character in the bible best known for suffering the unfathomable tragedy of having your wife turned to a pillar of salt while walking next to you.

we will reimagine "lot" for the live album "Take It With A Shaker" on August 1st, 2015.

lyrics

hold me under. i wanna see stars...
not this night sky's memory, but how they really are.
i'd rather suffocate than fail to appreciate your art.

the huddled masses may turn to facists...
they see green pastures 'cross every line.
the huddle masses burn down to ashes,
or a pillar of salt. i won't look behind.

eyes on the prize...face toward the light...
god, i miss my wife.

come to me like a shallow dream...
arms open wide...i'll come inside and cease to breathe.
i'd rather suffocate than fail to reciprocate your love for me.

the huddled masses may turn to facists...
they see green pastures 'cross every line.
the huddle masses burn down to ashes,
or a pillar of salt. i won't look behind.

eyes on the prize...face toward the light...

pour me another glass, let me mourn the past...
out here alone.
i feel her in my sleep. she comes and makes love to me.
she takes me home.

how much must one man give 'til you be pleased?
my name will come to die out here with me...

Having always placed the primary importance on lyricism, his songs tend to float effortlessly between genres...each one falling precisely where it needs to in order to most accurately tell the story. And that's all that matters - songs and stories. ... more
